US: Arizona woman shoots son dead over aged care home threat

1 min read

92-year-old Anna Mae Blessing shot her 72-year-old son because she believed he planned to put her in a nursing home when she became “difficult to live with”.

According to court records, Ms Blessing had been living with her son and his girlfriend for about six months when she became worried that the pair were plotting to move her into a home.

Confined to her wheelchair, she took two guns she had owned since the 1970s and fired multiple shots at her son before turning a gun on the 57-year-old girlfriend who wrestled it from her.

Ms Blessing told police she had planned to take her own life but was out of weapons.

She has now been charged with murder with bail set at US$500,000 (AU$680,000).
