St Bart’s proposed 80-bed Perth aged care home for the homeless one step closer

1 min read

Western Australia's Metro Inner Development Assessment Panel has recommended approval of St Bart's aged care facility in East Perth, which will provide 80 aged care beds for people over 50 who have a history of homelessness.

The seven-storey $39 million development will includes a roof terrace providing a communal space for residents, plus gathering spaces, store rooms, a pool table, BBQ/kitchen area, and outdoor furniture.

On the ground floor will be therapy and consultation rooms, meeting rooms, a laundry room, lobby, the foyer and 12 parking spaces.

The first floor will house St Bart’s administration office and meeting rooms, while resident rooms will be located on floors two to six.

Community consultation ended on 1 May, with one person commenting, “As Perth’s population ages, projects like this are essential. St Bart’s has a proven track record of delivering high-quality care, and this facility will offer dignity and security to those who need it most.”

St Bart's began in 1963 as a small homeless shelter for men. Today, the Not For Profit has 146 community housing properties across Perth, and is the only recognised operator of residential homeless aged care in WA.
