Outgoing HammondCare CEO Mike Baird to be inaugural Chief Executive of the Susan McKinnon Foundation

The Susan McKinnon Foundation (SMF) says it has a focus on three areas: "fostering robust state institutions, developing and inspiring effective leaders, and encouraging quality policy dialogue."

Mike Baird, the former NSW Premier, who will step down as CEO of the Christian Not For Profit in the second half of this year, has been announced as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer, with Holly Kramer as Chair of SMF.

“It’s no secret I’m passionate about the role governments and MPs can play in driving positive change. The Susan McKinnon Foundation offers a wholly unique opportunity to contribute more widely to the future of political leadership and democracy in Australia,” Mike said.

“I am energised by the SMF’s vision of trying to help our political leaders be equipped for senior roles, contribute to public policy, encourage mechanisms to support strong government and to inspire many to play a role in government during their careers. I think its contribution has already been hugely positive and I’m very excited to lead its progress from here.”

SMF founders Grant Rule and Sophie Oh said Mike's reputation as a centrist, can-do leader who has been highly successful in politics and business, makes him the perfect person to lead the organisation.

Mike, a member of the Department of Health and Aged Care's Aged Care Taskforce, joined HammondCare in 2020 following a stint at NAB and a decade in NSW Liberal politics, serving as Premier between 2014 and 2017. He became Chair of Cricket Australia in February.

Starting from nothing, Grant built Australia’s largest SMS technology business. Following the $1.7 billion business sale in 2021, Sophie and Grant committed most of their wealth to the Susan McKinnon Foundation

Mike starts at SMF in August, transitioning to full-time in January 2025.
