Two letters to The Age last week

The right of aged care staff to have a voice too:

Monsie Pickles, Sebasopol

I have worked in aged care for 20 years. I cannot count the number of times I had been punched and kicked and bruised. Yes, we have a duty of care and we work so hard provide that but take a step back and realised that aged care facilities are so short staffed. Also, staff are not given the support they truly need. One worker can have 20 to 40 residents to look after. It is ridiculous. Please look at both sides of the argument. We need a voice, help us.

Name withheld, Wellington South

Sadly, those who are severely demented and violent need to be sedated or isolated to stop them hurting other residents or staff in aged care facilities it is an insidious disease. We must be careful what we ban.
