Vasey RSL Care plans 400-plus unit co-located community

A $321 million redevelopment of the Not For Profit’s 120-bed aged care home in Frankston South has been lodged with the Victorian Government under its Development Facilitation Program.

Vasey RSL Care’s aged care home is spread over five linked houses and is adjacent to its ex-service accommodation – around 80 rental units for veterans and war widows, 43km south-west of Melbourne’s CBD.

The plan is to redevelop the 7.62ha site for:

• 414 retirement living units (including 105 affordable housing units); and
• an 80-bed RAC facility.

Ratio Consultants prepared the planning submission for the site designed specifically for ex-service personnel and seniors.

The architectural design report by ThomsonAdsett Architects states it focuses on six key principles: site sensitivity, meaningful social experiences, health and wellness, sustainability, the ‘small house’ model of care, and a ‘site of care’ philosophy.
