There were 15 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Victoria on Monday, bringing the state’s number of active cases to 191.

This is a 42% decrease on the 326 active cases reported at the same time last week.

Victoria had 31 active cases in aged care, making up 16% of the state’s total and the state’s death toll stayed steady on 810, with no new deaths recorded.

The rolling 14-day average for metropolitan Melbourne increased to 9.9 and 0.4 in regional Victoria.

And there were 21 Victorians in hospital with the virus, with no one in intensive care.

The major aged care outbreaks include:

  • 17 active cases are currently linked to Estia Aged Care Facility Keilor (total cases: 51)
  • 3 active cases are currently linked to Embracia Moonee Valley Aged Care Facility (total cases: 82)
  • 3 active cases are currently linked to Opal Hobsons Bay Aged Care Facility (total cases: 46)
  • 3 active cases are currently linked to Uniting Age Well Preston (total cases: 3)

Will targets for easing of restrictions be changed?

In his daily press briefing, Premier Daniel Andrews touched on the prospect of changing the targets for the easing of lockdown restrictions – originally flagged to be rolled back from Sunday – but stopped short of committing anything concrete.

“People were very keen to have targets and to have a clear sense of what we were aiming for and to have dates alongside those targets so we have tried to provide that, but at no point have I ever sought to guarantee that we would be able to deliver an outcome on a day,” he said.

“That isn’t the nature of this fight, I’m afraid. I wish I could. Much like I wish I could look down the camera and tell every Victorian all the different things I hope to announce on Sunday.”

“At no point have I said to people that these are a stone tablet and on this date, we will take the following step. It has always been heavily caveated to say subject to how much virus there is and how much narrative sits behind those cases.”

“Perhaps I have not been as clear as we could have been.”
