Check out the graph above.

It shows the number of Australians who have been tested for COVID-19 since 22 January 2020 – five months ago before coronavirus was declared a pandemic.

As you can see, just under 2.416 million Australians have now been tested for COVID-19 – around 9.2% of the total population. Over 36,000 of those tests took place in the last 24 hours.

NSW and Victoria lead the way on testing as the most populous states but even the Northern Territory has completed over 13,000 tests (5% of its population) while the ACT has notched up more than 29,000 (6.7% of its population).

Only 0.3% of those tests have come back positive.

Despite the increase in cases – 85 in the past 24 hours – mainly due to the Victorian outbreaks, Australia is still tracking well ahead of other countries on both case numbers with 7,767 cases – 759 of which are active.

In addition, there are only two active coronavirus cases in residential care – both in Victoria.

Compare this to the United States where around 10% of the population has also now been tested – with 10% positive.
