Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed the state had 282 new cases in his daily briefing on Monday, a slight increase on Sunday’s total of 279 new cases.

Victoria now has 7,474 active cases with over 2,000 linked to aged care settings.

Premier Andrews confirmed 25 deaths, the deadliest day since the start of the pandemic, including one man in his 60s, four women and three men in their 70s, six women and four men in their 80s and four women and three men in their 90s.

Of these deaths, 22 have been linked to aged care settings. At least 216 of the 334 people who have died with COVID-19 in Victoria were either aged care residents or have been linked to aged care.

Dip in new cases promising, but no time for complacency – Andrews

The Premier said there was some cause for people to be hopeful with the number of new cases below 300, but urged Victorians to err on the side of caution.

“We can’t afford for any sense of complacency to creep in here. We just have to keep pushing forward each and every day,” he said.

“This is a long way from over.”

Every effort being made for Hambleton House supported residents after weekend breaches

Mr Andrews also confirmed an additional 12 residents at Hambleton House, a supported residential service for people with mental health issues, located in Albert Park, 4km south of the CBD, would be transferred to hospital.

This comes after 10 residents were transferred out of the facility on Sunday amid media reports that residents had been seen breaching lockdown restrictions and wandering the local community without face masks over the weekend.

The Premier said “every effort was being made” to ensure appropriate care was provided for residents.

“This is a serious issue, it's being taken seriously,” he said.
