5 deaths and just 70 new cases as Premier Andrews announces roadmap out of state’s restrictions

Victoria has once again recorded its lowest total of new cases since July 3 with Premier Daniel Andrews confirming 70 new cases in his update on Tuesday.

The Premier confirmed five new deaths including two women in their 70s, two women in their 80s and one woman in her 90s. All five were linked to aged care.

The state’s death toll is now sitting at 570.

There are now 2,519 active cases in Victoria with 1,197 linked to aged care.

The major outbreaks in Victoria include:

  • 214 cases linked to Epping Gardens Aged Care in Epping (no new cases since Monday)
  • 203 cases linked to St Basil’s Home for the Aged in Fawkner (no new cases since Monday)
  • 193 cases linked to BaptCare Wyndham Lodge Community in Werribee (4 new cases since Monday)
  • 161 cases linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Ardeer (no new cases since Monday)
  • 139 cases linked to Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes in Kilsyth (no new cases since Monday)
  • 124 cases linked to Twin Parks Aged Care in Reservoir (1 new case since Monday)
  • 123 cases linked to Cumberland Manor Aged Care Facility in Sunshine North (no new cases since Monday)
  • 115 cases linked to Outlook Gardens Aged Care Facility in Dandenong North (no new cases since Monday)
  • 115 cases linked to Japara Goonawarra Aged Care Facility in Sunbury (no new cases since Monday)
  • 114 cases linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Heidelberg (one new case since Friday)

Victoria now has 421 people in hospital with COVID-19.

This includes 20 patients in ICU, and seven patients on a ventilator.

Roadmap out of restrictions

Plans for the reopening of the state are due to be released this Sunday, and Premier Andrews confirmed different rules would apply for regional Victoria.

"That'll be based on case numbers, the science, the evidence, the best medical advice," he said.
