850 aged care facilities volunteer to test ACFI alternative

1 min read

Around 70,000 aged care places have been nominated to take part in the trials of the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) which was developed by the University of Wollongong as part of the Resource Utilisation and Classification Study to possibly replace the current Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI).

The tool will be tested by one or a few assessment management organisations that will employ a team of independent external assessors including registered nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists to carry out the estimated 5,600 assessments.

The Department of Health says it now plans to map out the geographic sites for the trial this month before training the external assessors in November.

The assessments are due to be completed by April 2020 with the trial completed by next June.
