After eight years’ planning, Renee Straguszi launches Casa Mia south of Cairns, QLD

Cairns real estate agent Renee Straguszi, whose family created the award-winning Lakes Resort, apartment complex Cairns One and Cutters Rise residential development, has announced a 150-villa retirement resort.

Building is scheduled to start in October on the seniors’ resort on 3.8ha of land at Gordonvale, 23km south of Cairns in Far North QLD. Renee’s grandmother, the late Rose Straguszi, resided in a home on the land until she died, aged 92, in April 2019.

There will be a central piazza, a nod to the Straguszi family's Italian heritage, designed to be the heart of the community.

“Residents will live in self-contained villas but have access to on-site care from one of Queensland’s leading home care providers and a separate on-site respite centre,” Renee said.

“It means residents can continue to stay in their own homes, couples can stay together, and partners can have a trip to see the grandkids knowing their loved one is well cared for in their absence.”

She added one aim was for seniors to have the opportunity to expand their social life, with a full-time social co-ordinator creating daily activities.

There will be a restaurant, bar, cafe, gym, pool, wellness centre, hairdresser, community garden, a man cave, and a ladies shed.
