Aged care funding grows 6% in FY 2016-17 as home care providers jump 41.5% in numbers

The Federal Government has revealed a record spend of $17.1B on aged care spending in the latest Report on the Operation of the Aged Care Act, a 5.7% increase on the previous year.

Almost 70% of spending went towards residential care – despite the majority of the 1.3M people (75%) receiving aged care using home care packages.

The number of approved home care providers also grew 41.5% last FY, while an extra 6,000 Level 3 and 4 home care packages were released.

In total, the Government has committed $100B to aged care funding over the next five years, a rise of around 6% per year.
