Aged care operators may benefit from tight Royal Commission Review deadline

1 min read

Last November, the Commissioners asked the Top 100 aged care operators to provide reports on their facilities outlining every minor complaint, incident and failure since 2013 – only 87 had done so by the deadline of 7 January.

But one of these top providers has told us that while completing such a massive task over the Christmas break was taxing, it has also proven to be an advantage in disguise.

Doing this report has forced the operator, they tell us, to comb through five years of data on their own facility, getting to know every red flag and chance for improvement.

And they’ve been surprised by some of their own findings, namely the high percentage of incidents that were ‘resident against resident’ as opposed to ‘staff against resident’ – a major focus of the Commission.
