Ninety residents at Arcare’s Peregian Springs facility on the Sunshine Coast spent a night inside because they could not be safely evacuated during the recent bushfires.
Arcare CEO Colin Singh said there were two instances where they had been “advised to prepare to evacuate”.
“On both occasions, staff moved all residents to the foyer in preparation. On both occasions, the order to evacuate was cancelled by the appropriate emergency services team,” he said.
QLD fire crews formed three lines of defence around the home to protect the residents, but it is a timely reminder to have evacuation plans up-to-date and residents prepared for emergencies.
