At last weeks Ageing Population Summit 2008, Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot released new research that indicates by 2060 Australian women will live to 90, and by mid-century most Australians will on average reach their mid-to-late 80s. She further revealed by 2045 50, Australian men and women will live five years longer than they currently do; the life expectancy for women rising from 83.7 to 88 years, that of men jumping from 79 to 84.1. Today, Australia has the second longest life expectancy in the world 81.4 years after Japan.
