Berkeley Living Retirement Village returns again to haunt the Melbourne media

1 min read

The abandoned village has been described by The Herald Sun recently as a ‘cesspool for crime’.

It’s hard to believe this former Patterson Lakes retirement village shut down only two years ago.

Berkeley Living was closed by authorities in 2017 after the operator abandoned residents and left staff without pay.

Kingston Council responded to residents’ complaints about ‘discarded needles, broken glass, a burnt-out car and graffiti-covered walls’

The abandoned retirement village remains an eyesore.

Then Fairfax Media journalist Adele Ferguson, together with A Current Affair, gave much coverage to the collapse of the village which was owned by 13 investors who individually owned the 30 serviced apartments.

It appears Berkeley living will continue to cast a shadow on the Victorian village sector.
