Brisbane councillor urges residents to protest seven-storey aged care facility planned for Brisbane beachside suburb

1 min read

The new wave of Consumer Advocacy: Brisbane councillor for Wynnum Manly Peter Cumming is urging residents to lodge a submission against the proposed 148-unit development at Anglicare’s Edwin Marsden Tooth Memorial Home at Manly, 20km west of the Brisbane CBD, which has been put forward by the Not For Profit and Justin and Michael Harrison’s Village Retirement Group.

“I think seven storeys is much too high for the district,” Cr Cumming said. “(Anglicare) have got no right to expect it.”

However Anglicare says there is demand for more aged care in the area.

“Feedback we receive from across the Manly, Lota and Wynnum communities confirms that people want to stay in their local area when they retire or enter aged care,” their spokesperson said.

Not everyone has the same opinion – 16 submissions were lodged against the project in five days.
