Residents launch three separate appeals against approval of RetireAustralia’s Tarragindi Bowls Club retirement village

1 min read

The new wave of Consumer Advocacy: The appeals have been lodged in Brisbane’s Planning and Environment Court against Brisbane City Council and RetireAustralia over its plan to build 94 retirement village units, plus a new clubhouse and other community facilities, at the Club, 8km south of the CBD.

The appellants argue the development is in “serious and major conflict with the City Plan”, do not protect the bowling green on the site and the planned three- to five-storey units do not fit with the local character of the area.

The news coincides with a piece in The Courier Mail highlighting the Council’s incentives to build more aged care facilities on sports and recreation land that argues the “pendulum has swung too far towards developers”.

The Council has stood by its decision, saying the approved plans are a win for the community, not only for the upgraded sports facilities but also for neighbours.

RetireAustralia had spent 18 months liaising with the Club and community on the development, but as we covered here, around 1,800 submissions were made against the project.
