A group of 10, members of the China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce, have just been provided a guided tour of North Queensland by the Cairns Regional Council. The delegation was specifically searching for aged care and retirement projects and expressed a strong interest in Kewarra Retirement Village, a resort style village owned by the Anton Group. Sean Howard, the owner of Anton, made his fortune with Malcolm Turnbull by establishing and then selling Australias first Internet service Ozemail. He also owns Cumberland View village in Melbourne which was the subject of an unpleasant dispute with Lend Lease when the management contract was not renewed without discussion.
The Chinese delegation was being treated seriously given the involvement of Mr. Benny Wu who purchased nearby Double Island last year for $10 million.
