Warwick Dementia Support Group has made a sizeable donation to allow Not For Profit community-owned Killarney Memorial Aged Care in Killarney Hospital, 190km southwest of Brisbane, to go ahead and build a specialist memory support unit as part of its planned expansion.

The donation of $294,000 will ensure the unit is integrated into the aged care home, which currently operates 50 aged care beds, a GP and allied health service, independent living units, home care, Meals on Wheels, and a men’s shed.

Operations Manager Mick Cantwell said he hoped to have the new specialist memory support unit open by February 2023.

“The demand is very high, and we want to be able to build the new area to support local families as quickly as possible,” he added.
