Former outer Melbourne RAC could reopen after $3.2M sale

A shuttered residential aged care facility in Melbourne’s outer east has been bought by new owners, who plan to reopen it less than a year after its closure.

Heathmont Lodge in Heathmont, about 24km east of Melbourne’s CBD, whose owners closed it and relocated late last year, has sold for $3.2 million – or $100,000 under the asking price – to local developers.

The new owners reportedly aim to upgrade the building before registering it again as an aged care home, according to Neil Jenkins of Wollermann Business Brokers, who handled the sale.

“They want to operate it specifically for a particularly demographic or denomination of people. It could be caring for people with maybe disabilities, or they might just run it to care for elderly people,” he told Leader Community News.

The home features 35 ensuited units plus a three-bedroom manager’s residence, and was advertised by Wollermann as being “an excellent freehold property ideally suitable for an SRS, NDIS or rooming house operator”.

“A perfect opportunity for a buyer with aged care experience,” the listing read.
