Health Minister Greg Hunt warns families not to pull loved ones out of aged care homes – as facilities told not to host childcare groups

The Minister maintains aged care homes are still the safest place for older Australians who need care, despite concerns about how many residents would die if the virus spreads to more facilities.

“For children who have older parents in aged care homes, that remains the safest circumstance for them because they’re under care, they’re under management,” he said.

NSW chief medical officer, Dr Kerry Chant, has also told aged care facilities to stop hosting children from childcare centres with coronavirus tests for parents and 17 children who visited Dorothy Henderson Lodge from a nearby childcare centre on 24 February.

While Health Minister Brad Hazzard said there was no indication the children had been infected with the virus or were responsible for infecting the residents at the aged care home, the clinic was held as a precaution.
