Sam Rae, 39, who was elected to the Victorian seat of Hawke in 2022, has been appointed Minister for Aged Care and Seniors as part of the re-elected Albanese Government's ministerial reshuffle today (Monday, 12 May).

Prior to his election as an MP, Sam was a State Secretary for Labor and a Partner at management consultants PwC, and is regarded as an up-and-coming star of the Labor Party's right faction.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has re-appointed Mark Butler to the Health and Ageing portfolio. Minister Butler will also take on Disability and the NDIS.

The former Minister for Aged Care Anika Wells, who often spoke of her experience working in the aged care sector as a young law student, has been promoted to the Communications portfolio, but will retain Sport.

Minister Wells led the establishment of the Government's Aged Care Taskforce, which has been credited with driving the introduction of new funding, including increased consumer contributions, to the sector.

Newly elected Tasmanian MP Rebecca White will also became Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, replacing Kate Thwaites.

The new Cabinet will be sworn in at 9am tomorrow (Tuesday, 13 May).
