Not For Profit Sylvan Glades plans expansion of retirement village in Yarra Ranges, VIC

1 min read

Plans are progressing for an expansion of the Sylvan Glades Retirement Village in Monbulk, 42km east of Melbourne’s CBD, with community meetings already held to discuss the proposal.

The Not For Profit charity, which began as the Monbulk Elderly Person’s Home, owns and operates 29 one- and two-bedroom homes and a community hall across two locations on a 1.6ha site in the Yarra Ranges township. The village is fully occupied, and the proposed development would add more over-55s housing to meet local demand.

"For many years we have seen people leaving Monbulk due to housing availability. We are losing our grandparents, our history and our volunteers," Madcow-Monbulk and District Community Opportunities Working Group said in a Facebook post.

"We are looking at this housing development as an extension of the current facility to keep the housing cost as low as possible, making them accessible to more over 55's in our community.

"We are working with incredible locals to support this project in being as environmentally conscious and the highest quality of build as possible."

The project is being designed by Jeremy McLeod, co-founder of Breathe, with a survey underway to gauge local priorities for the development.
