John Pollaers outlines 15 strategic actions for aged care industry taskforce

1 min read

In aged care (and retirement living) the supply and quality of the future workforce is the most pressing challenge – along with funding).

John Pollaers has the task to solve these challenges.

The Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce’s chairman has revealed 15 recommendations for the sector at last week’s second Taskforce Summit in Adelaide. These include:

  • An industry-led, voluntary code of conduct (similar to the Retirement Living Council’s new code);
  • Addressing the funding shortfall;
  • Setting up rural and remote accord;
  • Establishing an aged care research centre to support local innovation;
  • Reframing the qualification and skills framework;
  • Defining new career pathways;
  • Approach to workforce planning and skill mix modelling;
  • Implementing new attraction and retention strategies; and
  • Developing an IR framework to better reflect the changing nature of work.

They will need to move fast to consult with the sector however – the Taskforce is due to report to the Government on 30 June.
