In aged care (and retirement living) the supply and quality of the future workforce is the most pressing challenge – along with funding).

The Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce’s chairman has revealed 15 recommendations for the sector at last week’s second Taskforce Summit in Adelaide. These include:
- An industry-led, voluntary code of conduct (similar to the Retirement Living Council’s new code);
- Addressing the funding shortfall;
- Setting up rural and remote accord;
- Establishing an aged care research centre to support local innovation;
- Reframing the qualification and skills framework;
- Defining new career pathways;
- Approach to workforce planning and skill mix modelling;
- Implementing new attraction and retention strategies; and
- Developing an IR framework to better reflect the changing nature of work.
They will need to move fast to consult with the sector however – the Taskforce is due to report to the Government on 30 June.
