Lend Lease commits to two new retirement village in the ACT - plus is awarded first LHA award

Lend Lease has lodged a development application for a 161 ILU village on a 6 ha site in the Canberra suburb of Ngunnawal, 15 km north of the CBD. Construction is due to commence in September with completion forecast in 2019. At the same time its Isabella Plains village, which commenced construction in February and is located 21 km south of the CBD has just been made the first retirement village in Australia to achieve the Gold Liveable Housing Design Quality Mark from Liveable Housing Australia (LHA).

LHA is the new responsible body for the development and promotion of liveable housing design guidelines. It is a partnership between consumer groups such as COTA, the Property Council and the Australian Local Government Association plus others. Its chairman is Peter Verwer, CEO of the property Council. Under its principles dwellings will be:
• easier to enter
• safer to move in and around
• more capable of easy and cost-effective adaption
• designed to better anticipate and respond to the changing needs and abilities of people who live in the home
