The country’s most prolific retirement village developer has secured approval to add 172 units to its existing 204-home community in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

Knox City Council has approved Levande’s development application to build two new apartment buildings with 172 units designed by Link Architecture at its existing Levande Knox retirement village in Wantirna South, opposite the Westfield Knox Shopping Centre.

The development will be built in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Construction of Building 1, the community facility, and part of the basement;
  • Stage 2: Construction of Building 2, remaining basement works, and landscaping;

The buildings

  • Building 1 will be seven storeys with 99 Independent Living Units (six one-bedroom, 62 two-bedroom, and 31 three-bedroom).
  • Building 1 will also contain the community facility and a central ground floor courtyard.
  • Building 2 will be six storeys with a maximum height of approximately 20.4m and 73 Independent Living Units (57 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom).

The single-storey new community hub will include a café and bar, multipurpose and games rooms, gym and yoga room, salon, pool, sauna and spa.

Levande Knox has 204 villas, with 28 to be levelled to make way for the new buildings.

In total, Levande has seven projects in various stages of construction:

  • Cardinal Freeman, Ashfield, 8km west of Sydney’s CBD: The new building with 41 Independent Living Units completes the total redevelopment of the site.

  • Somerton Park, a seaside suburb of Adelaide: An expansion of the existing village with 34 villas and a new clubhouse.
  • Hills Showground, Castle Hill, 34km northwest of Sydney’s CBD: A new retirement village of 217 independent living apartments.

  • Bentleigh East, 14km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD. The redevelopment of former light industrial land into a new retirement village for around 400 residents across four buildings. Stage one is for 85 apartments, with the final development to boast over 250 apartments.

  • Highton, Geelong, 75km from Melbourne’s CBD: A new 120-unit retirement village.
  • Oak Grange, Brighton East, 12km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD: 201 new one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom retirement living apartments across multiple buildings.
  • Oatlands, 23km northwest of Sydney’s CBD: 127 independent living units being built across three new buildings at the Oatlands Golf Course.
