Libby Lyons, former Head of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, has been appointed the inaugural Chair of The Aged Care Workforce Industry Council.

Acting Chair Kevin McCoy said the Council was thrilled with Ms Lyons’ appointment which will begin on 1 July.

“This is an incredibly important role implementing A Matter of Care, Australia’s aged care workforce strategy, as highlighted in the recent recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety,” said Mr McCoy.

“With the current unprecedented focus on aged care and its workforce, Libby’s appointment will strengthen the Council’s ability to reshape how Australians view the sector and how we as industry leaders support our workforce to deliver care and support that older Australians expect and deserve.”

Mr McCoy said the Council’s Directors are looking to be disruptive in their work, and think in a manner that challenges the status quo, to address issues that for too long have remained unresolved.

Ms Lyons said that the Aged Care Workforce Industry Council has made exceptional inroads in the delivery of A Matter of Care, under the strong leadership of Mr McCoy, Council Directors, CEO Louise O’Neill and her team.

She was appointed Head of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency for a period of five years from October 2015. Prior to joining the Agency, she held senior management roles across the government and corporate sectors in the energy, resources and telecommunications industries.
