Melbourne aged care home in lockdown after positive test with residents confined to rooms

1 min read

Regis Aged Care Home in East Malvern has been locked down after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The infected worker is in isolation and all residents have been confined to their rooms, pending the results of contract tracing.

A further five staff members have been identified as close contacts.

This is the fourth Regis facility to report worker infections, after confirmed cases at the provider’s Fawkner, Macleod and Brighton homes.

Regis CEO and MD Linda Mellors said the home has completed the resident clinical screening tool, as provided by the Department of Heath and Human Services.

“We have implemented our Outbreak Management Plan, which includes a number of carefully planned measures across the Home based on what we have learnt from the outbreak at Regis Brighton,” said Ms Mellors.

This includes a deep clean of the facility and receiving additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all staff to help minimise the risk of spreading the infection.

Ms Mellors shared that the Commonwealth’s specialist medical response team, AUSMAT, were also invited on site at the East Malvern home to provide support.
