in his speech at the ACSA national conference yesterday Sen Mitch Fifield in his speech acknowledged the success of Fronditha Care in Melbourne obtaining approval to recruit up to 20 aged care staff from overseas.

He stated any provider can submit a proposal to recruit foreign workers. He said that the government is committed to the current skilled migrant programme that he understood it was important to ‘facilitate not frustrate’ providers of care.

The dynamic of elderly immigrant residents relapsing to their first language as they age calls for staff with that language to provide comfort plus release other staff from the emotional pressure of loss of communication.
