National Seniors CEO calls for single aged care peak body

1 min read

Last on the podium for the day, National Seniors CEO John McCallum (pictured) failed to make the same splash as Ian Yates in his remarks to the Commissioners, but did make some interesting remarks in his exchange with Seniors Counsel Assisting Timothy McEvoy QC.

Mr McCallum noted that aged care is still very much a cottage industry – “it’s still emerging in many ways” – and fragmented – we have three peak bodies, with some providers belonging to none, and until the recent single Aged Care Quality Commission, three different regulators.

He favours a single peak body plus an industry code of conduct – an issue that will be canvassed in today’s meeting of the Industry References Committee.

We suspect the latter is more likely to happen than the former.
