NSW Government to invest $2.5 million in business case for TAFE NSW residential aged care training facility

Ahead of the release of the NSW Budget today, Treasurer Dominic Perrottet (pictured above) and Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee have revealed the State Government is looking seriously at establishing a ‘teaching’ aged care home.

$2.5 million will be invested in developing a business case for a TAFE NSW aged care training facility which would be positioned as a ‘centre of excellence’ and be based on a TAFE campus.

Mr Perrottet said the centre could be located in either a metropolitan or regional area.

“The funding committed to this business case will develop the best options on how to deliver such a training centre,” he said.

Mr Lee added that the centre would transform the approach to Vocational Education and Training (VET) “by breaking down sectoral divides between VET, higher education and industry to create seamless education pathways, and meet the skills needs of NSW”.

The Aged Care Royal Commission has explored reviving the idea of ‘teaching’ aged care facilities as part of its investigation into the sector.
