The boutique village operator had planned to build 94 units at the Italo Australian Club at Clear Island Waters but withdrew the application after locals objected to the loss of the club’s bocce courts and some of its soccer fields.
Oak Tree’s Senior Development Manager Len Torti told the Gold Coast Bulletin the club had approached them to create the project, which would have given Oak Tree a 99-year lease over the land in return for a yearly income stream and upgraded clubhouse.
“We don’t want to get involved in a vehement fight – we just want to be good corporate citizens,” Mr Torti said.
