Anglican Church Growth Corporation includes over 55s affordable housing in urban renewal in Sydney’s Inner West

Ross Jones, CEO of Anglican Church Growth Corporation, has told The Weekly SOURCE that over 55s affordable housing will be part of the redevelopment of the 4014msq site of St Albans Church in Five Dock, 10km west of Sydney’s CBD

Developer Traders In Purple has been appointed for the urban renewal project, which Five Dock is a part of, focusing on providing a range of social infrastructure on church land, including:

  • Affordable housing;

  • Special Disability Accommodation;

  • Key worker accommodation;

  • Student housing;

  • Senior living/aged care;

  • Childcare;

  • Youth recreation facilities, and

  • Crisis accommodation.

Ross (pictured) said over 55s affordable housing is part of its affordable housing strategy, but not the only part.

“It should be noted that the focus of Anglicare’s affordable housing projects under the NSW Social & Affordable Housing Fund (SAFF) program were all focused on over 55s (predominantly single women).  That has added 550 affordable properties to the over 55s segment of the market,” he said.

“We focused on this segment, at the time, because a significant proportion of women who use Anglicare’s Food and Financial Assistance program experience rental stress or housing insecurity.”
