Anglicare looks to create aged care workforce from 15,000 laid-off ex-Deliveroo staff

Anglicare Southern Queensland is extending a job offer to former Deliveroo workers, inviting them to consider a career in aged care and community services following the gig-economy food delivery company’s decision to exit Australia.

The Not For Profit is hoping to entice some of the estimated 15,000 workers who lost their jobs when Deliveroo pulled out of the country earlier this month, said Anglicare Southern Queensland’s Director of Organisational Development Anna Zilli (pictured).

“We have a number of roles available for people interested in starting a career in the sector, including as a Support Services Worker where you provide cleaning or household support to our clients living in surrounding areas including Brisbane, Logan, Cleveland, Toowoomba, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Bundaberg, and Townsville,” she said.

According to Anna, the provider offers good work-life balance and the chance to advance a permanent career within the sector.

“With more than 3,000 staff and 170 volunteers situated right across Queensland, our organisation is constantly expanding to ensure the needs of the community are met.

“Just like Deliveroo works around its staff’s availability, Anglicare Southern Queensland also offers flexibility, but this is through a range of casual, part time and full-time positions – and they will be eligible for employee entitlements, which will provide them with a sense of relief knowing that they have stable and fulfilling work,” she said.

The Productivity Commission last month highlighted the potential role of gig economy platforms like Mable and Five Good Friends in filling home care workforce gaps.
