Australian aged care first: Goodwin hires on-site pharmacist

1 min read

New thinking: research shows medication errors are commonly reported in 16-27% of aged care residents.

Now the Not For Profit has hired an accredited pharmacist to work alongside its team of specialists to conduct medication reviews and provide clinical intervention following a six-month trial.

The appointment follows a collaboration between Goodwin and the University of Canberra which found that while there was strong evidence that pharmacists help reduce overmedication and ensure quality use of medicine (QUM) among residents, no facilities in Australia had an on-site pharmacist.
