VIC Government reveals aged care development plan for Wantirna

Continuing to break the trend of state Governments exiting residential aged care, the outer-eastern Melbourne suburb of Wantirna is to be the site of a state-of-the-art aged care development, in a plan developed by the Victorian Government.

The $81.6M, 120 bed public residential aged care service will help form a dedicated health hub for older Victorians and their families.

According to the latest figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, just eight per cent of aged care facilities are state run.

The infamous Oakden was a SA Government aged care home.

The median age of people in Wantirna is 44, with just over 18% of the population being aged over 65. (2016 Census)
