Premier Andrews – State Government limited in what it can do to regulate private system

1 min read

In his press briefing, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said a lot more could be done to make private aged care facilities less susceptible to outbreaks.

But the Premier said these measures were out of the state government’s control.

"There's a lot of things we could do, we could have nurse-to-patient ratios like we do in public aged care, but I do not have the power to do that," he said.

This comes after the Premier conceded over the weekend that the aged care lockout is heartbreaking but here with us for the immediate future at least.

“The vulnerability of aged care residents is not going to change,” the Premier said.

“So the measures that are our best attempt to keep them safe, they probably won't change either.”
