QLD: LASA requests more time for retirement living operators to comply with new housing legislation

As we reported here, the changes to both the Manufactured Homes (Residential Parks) Act 2003 (Qld) (MHRP Act) and the Retirement Villages Act 1999 (Qld) (RV Act) are due to start 1 February 2019, but Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) has called on the Queensland Government to revise the date, saying the sector has not been given enough time to comply.

The Government only released the mandated forms required to replace the public information document (PID) on 30 November 2018, while a legal review of the forms has also identified a number of inconsistencies with the Act and the regulations.

LASA CEO Sean Rooney says the inconsistencies may place operators in breach and restrict the ability of residents to sign a contract and move into a retirement village unit after the 1 February date.

“It is not only implementing the forms but education and training for all staff to comply with the new requirements,” he said.
