QLD: Planned North Lakes Golf Club sale for 200-unit retirement village angers homeowners

1 min read

The new wave of consumer advocacy: The Club, 26km north of the Brisbane CBD, wants to sell 11ha of its land to Michael and Justin Harrison’s The Village Retirement Group to build a 200-unit low-rise retirement village and a three-storey aged care facility after it closes at the end of the year due to financial losses.

The majority of the land – 57ha – would be kept for open space, environmental protection and possible sports and recreation facilities for the community.

But homeowners overlooking the course have started a sophisticated campaign against the sale with 200 people attending a protest on the weekend.

“We want a lifestyle, we were promised a lifestyle and we’re going to get it,” organiser Andrew Cathcart said.

Their Facebook page, Save North Lakes Golf Course, now has over 2,400 members, and a change.org petition with over 2,000 signatures plus videos to promote them.
