Queensland aged care worker tests positive for COVID – facility praised for quick response

A reminder that providers and staff everywhere still need to be on alert.

The staff member at Carinity’s Karinya Place aged care home at Laidley, 63km southeast of Brisbane in the Lockyer Valley, is now self-isolating and did not work with symptoms, but resident and a small number of staff who had contact with the infected person are self-isolating as a precaution.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young praised the response of the home’s management.

“That’s a very good facility, they had their COVID-safe plan, they put it into place, so they are working through that at the moment,” she said.

“They have a little bit of spare capacity so they believe they can make sure every resident has their own bathroom, so that’s all being sorted through at the moment.”

The worker was one of two new cases identified in Queensland yesterday, with 30 active cases across the state.
