Royal Commission to release its special report on COVID pandemic in aged care today

1 min read

The day of truth arrives.

The report – based on the findings from the Royal Commission’s August hearings into the outbreaks in Australia’s aged care homes – will be handed to the Governor-General and be made available on the Commission’s website after it is tabled in Parliament.

Released five months ahead of the Commissioners’ Final Report – due on 26 February 2021 – the report is expected to contain specific recommendations from the Commissioners to protect older Australians in residential care now.

The question is: will the Government adopt the measures?

The very fact that the Commissioners are putting out the report is likely to put pressure on the Prime Minister and Department of Health to take up any recommendations.

The Government already showed reluctance last week to bow to pressure from the AMA and the ANMF.

Will the Commissioners prove to be more persuasive?

You can sign up to the Royal Commission’s mailing list to be the first to receive the report here.

We will cover the report in tomorrow’s issues of The Daily RESOURCE and The SOURCE.
