SA aged care home sanctioned due to ‘immediate and severe risk’ to resident health and safety

1 min read

Aged care audits are reportedly becoming more “aggressive”.

A surprise audit of the Kiandra Residential Aged Care facility in Prospect (pictured – 5.5 kilometres north of Adelaide CBD) found a "significant failure to comply" with 21 of 44 care outcomes outlined by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC).

At a scheduled audit held just four months earlier, Kiandra had met all 44 care outcomes.

The ACQSC said it had serious concerns about management, staffing, and health and personal care at the home – including specialised nursing care, pain management, nutrition and hydration and skin care.

The facility is run by the Rosha Group, which also operates two other aged care homes in Adelaide's north.

The Department of Health says it will proceed with sanctions for a six-month period.

The ABC reports that many residents spoke “glowingly” of the care being delivered to their relatives, stating they were surprised to learn of the sanctions.
