SA: Australia’s first co-located school and aged care development wins appeal – against retirement village residents

As we covered in May this year, the local Onkaparinga Council had approved James Brown Memorial Trust’s plans to open the Southern Montessori middle school campus next to its 88-bed Kalyra Woodcroft facility in Morphett Vale, 25km south of the Adelaide CBD.

But around 100 residents at the nearby Elkanah Retirement Village launched an appeal in the Environment, Resources and Development Court, saying the development did not suit the area and would create too much traffic.

Village resident Dean Paterson, 83, who led the opposition, told Adelaide Now that many of his supporters were still upset the school was going to open.

“But if it goes ahead, it goes ahead, that is just the way it goes,” he said.

Kalyra Communities CEO Sara Blunt has also said that the school and facility will continue to work with the residents.
