SA’s largest village operator ECH looks to expand its retirement living offerings

With almost 2,000 units in its portfolio, the Profit for Purpose organisation is focusing on improving its service offerings and customer experience under newly appointed Chief Executive Claire Scapinello.

Formerly the Chief Digital Officer at RSL LifeCare NSW, Claire, who is originally from Adelaide, joined the organisation six weeks ago, taking the reins from long-time CEO Dr David Panter.

David had driven the group’s expansion into home care and focus on helping older Australians to live independently at home under its ‘Enabling Confidence at Home’ brand after the group divested its 10 aged care homes and 1,200 aged care beds in 2014.

Today, ECH has over 1,900 units across 109 retirement villages in Adelaide, most with around 20 units – its largest site at Modbury tops out at 110 units.

But much of the portfolio is older, and now an area of focus for Claire as she settles into her new role.

“There is plenty of opportunity for either redevelopment or developing existing land banks in the portfolio, and that is an area that we will certainly be exploring over the next couple of years to ensure they meet the future needs of our customers as they age,” she said.

“I think there are more options today for medium- and high-density developments in South Australia where it has predominantly been single to double storey.”
