Simon Schrapel AM departs as Uniting Communities' Chief Executive after 15 years

The South Australian Not For Profit has formally farewelled long-time Chief Executive Simon Schrapel, as a new face steps into the role.

Simon, who was in the role for a decade-and-a-half, oversaw the group's expansion to the situation today where it cares for more than 80,000 South Australians.

Under his tenure, Uniting Communities amalgamated with UnitingCare Adelaide East (2011) and opened the mixed-use high rise development, including a retirement village, in the Adelaide CBD, U City (2019).

Uniting Communities also has two aged care homes: Murray Mudge in Glenelg, 10km southwest of the Adelaide CBD, and Aldersgate in Felixstow, 7km northeast of the city, and delivers home care services. The organisation also provides First Nations services, youth and family support, and mental health and disability services.

Board Chair, Nigel Hall, said, “Today we say farewell – not just to a CEO, but to an extraordinary leader whose legacy will echo in every corner of this organisation.”

From 23 June, Jeremy Brown (pictured above) has stepped into the Chief Executive role, working with Simon during an extended handover period.

Jeremy was formerly Chief Operations Officer with assistive technology provider for adults, children, carers, and disability workers, Novita, where he led strategy and service delivery for people living with a disability.
