Why GemLife is putting Virtual Power Plants renewable energy into eight more land lease resorts

1 min read

Mark Langdon (pictured left with GemLife Director and CEO Adrian Puljich), CEO of Prospecta Utilities, has told The SOURCE the bald facts of properly configuring A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) into a retirement living operation.

VPPs are in operation at GemLife Maroochydore, GemLife Palmwoods and GemLife Bribie Island land lease resorts in Queensland.

"Installation of a VPP can save energy costs primarily through managing exposure to network charges and peak tariffs.  Network charges account for approximately 40% of total energy costs, installation, and management of a VPP with central battery storage will reduce exposure to these charges reducing overall costs,” said Mark.

"A properly configured VPP will also reduce exposure to peak tariffs with associated cost benefit.  An additional benefit that can be gained is through contracting within the national energy market that can open revenue generation opportunities, offsetting capital cost exposure."

Prospecta Utilities will install VPPs into eight more GemLife resorts over the coming 18 months.

In addition, 97 homes at GemLife Tweed Heads, in the northernmost town in NSW, will pilot 5G mmwave fixed wireless access network technology to allow its residents to set up their own enterprise network (operating without Telstra, Optus and TPG).
