‘Serviced enriched housing’ can deliver double-digit growth for retirement village operators

1 min read

Lyn Katzmann (pictured), keynote speaker at the RLC Summit and CEO of New Jersey (USA) based 23 site Juniper Communities, explained that retirement villages are in a unique position to deliver ‘services enriched housing’, what she calls a win-win business case for retirement villages which will:

  • improve care and resident outcomes
  • increase customer satisfaction
  • contain or lower government care expenditure

She has identified that delivering wellness in her village communities has delivered double-digit revenue growth (current revenue $85M pa).

Prevention is the real key to health, addressing chronic disease and disability, leading to increased life expectancy.

“We provide health; we provide the services that effectively manage chronic health”.

Branded ‘Connect4Life’, Juniper has re-engineered its business around the provision of a Medical Concierge in each community. This person’s job is to coordinate health services, coach residents and closely view comprehensive datasets for alerts in changes of behaviour.

Ms Katzmann described the program as a triple win – resident health and quality of life improves, the sector creates value for the health sector and unlocks public policy, and local health providers become a very active referral base for future customers to her communities.

Juniper now advises other retirement community operators on the introduction of her ‘Connect4Life’ program. Check it out HERE.
