Six more aged care deaths as Victoria heads for 20,000 COVID cases

The state has recorded 55 new coronavirus cases in the 24 hours to Tuesday, bringing its total number of cases since the pandemic began to 19,615.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced there had been eight new deaths, including two men in their 60s, two men in their 80s, and one woman and three men in their 90s.

Six of the deaths have been linked to aged care, taking the state’s total coronavirus death toll to 683.

Currently there are 238 people in Victorian hospitals with coronavirus, including 22 in intensive care, 13 of whom are on ventilators.

The number of active cases connected to aged care is now 863 – a fall of 10 since Monday but still representing 50.9% of the 1,696 active cases in Victoria.

The major aged care outbreaks include:

  • 232 cases linked to BaptCare Wyndham Lodge Community in Werribee (no new cases since Monday)
  • 215 cases linked to Epping Gardens Aged Care in Epping (no new cases since Friday)
  • 206 cases linked to St Basil’s Home for the Aged in Fawkner (no new cases since Friday)
  • 162 cases linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Ardeer (no new cases since Friday)
  • 139 cases linked to Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes in Kilsyth (no new cases since Friday)
  • 127 cases linked to Twin Parks Aged Care in Reservoir (no new cases since Friday)
  • 124 cases linked to Cumberland Manor Aged Care Facility in Sunshine North (no new cases since Monday)
  • 120 cases have been linked to BlueCross Ruckers Hill Aged Care Facility in Northcote (1 new case since Monday)
  • 119 cases linked to Japara Goonawarra Aged Care Facility in Sunbury (1 new case since Monday)
  • 117 cases linked to Estia Aged Care Facility in Heidelberg (no new cases since Friday)
