Some families have asked Fed Govt to help move relatives out of aged care homes, Aged Care Minister reveals

1 min read

Senator Richard Colbeck has acknowledged some of the sector’s COVID-19 responses have been “unacceptable” – and says the Federal Government is providing support for families who want to take their relatives out of residential care on an individual basis.

Mr Colbeck told the ABC people should have confidence in the aged care sector, but acknowledged some of the sector’s coronavirus responses have been unacceptable.

He would also not commit to increasing the number of Home Care Packages so more older Australians can receive higher-level care at home.

The question is then: who will care for these frail, elderly people at home?

Families may not want their loved ones to stay in aged care, but will they be prepared to require the supports needed?
